MARDA Gems is a start-up company founded with an aim to offers rough Gems & Jewelry while creating the space for capacity development, innovation & research .

Marda is a Ge’ez ancient world meaning prestigious gemstone . As the name reveals , our product carries an authentic story, offering a great prestige from the reflection of the past .

At Marda we aim to be of service and become an agent for change. We believe in working together with all stakeholder involved though the value chain to have a better impact and create a sustainable Gem and Jewelry industry in Ethiopia .

At MARDA Gems each of our gemstones are sustainably sourced based on dialogue, transparency, and respect. Our stones are sourced from different part of Ethiopia on Fairtrade principles and responsible sourcing scheme offering better trading conditions to our suppliers.

We visit on site and provide continues technical support to our suppliers. This is our way to ensure the conditions under which the gemstone source takes place to comply with sustainable development principles and improve the livelihood of Artisanal miners .

Our jewelry and accessory  collection are inspired by nature & heritage . We aim to reflect the beauty of nature embodies sentiments of African heritage and timeless . Our jewelry are uniquely handmade in Ethiopia .

We believe jewelries are perfect to share heritage that we have here in Ethiopia with the rest of the world . At Marda Gems ,We strive to create a unique brand that reflects Ethiopian ancient heritage and its association with gemstone by telling stories and inspiring one jewellery at a time.

We aim to make a difference in the gemstone sector at the grassroot level. That is why capacity development, economic empowerment , research and sustainable job creation are important to us . Based on our in-depth analysis of Ethiopian Gemstone industry we aim to develop customized modules to provide technical and skill- based training to the miners at the local level .

In collaboration with existing lapidary institute and training centres we will provide technical support based on research outputs to avail latest information in the lapidary technique and available technologies.

Through partnerships with accredited International and Regional Gem Training Institutes, we aim to provide class-based training to increase the skilled labour force in the industry and empower women in value addition.

At MARDA Gems, our Inspiration is derived from Ethiopian  indigenous Jewelry designs originated from 3000 years ago. Our originality and creativity come from the countries terrain and its hidden treasure of undiscovered cultures and unique colored gemstones that remain untouched and unappreciated in our modern history.

Ethiopia followed a heritage that is vital, colorful and unique since royal crowns and kings and queens adorned with jewels made of gemstones, gold, and silver for centuries. To this day the love of ornamentation ruled by a natural affinity for beauty led the Ethiopians to adorn themselves in memorably dramatic jewels with timeless designs handcrafted used during festivities and religious rituals.

The diverse and profusion of jewelry design weather crafted by skillful smiths of gold and silver or made in the villages by mothers over coffee, from leather, base metals, and colorful beads, Jewelry making has been an integral part of the national attire for Ethiopian ladies that is unique to their respective tribe, culture, and beliefs.

Gems are the most ancient stones in the world with history which has always been strongly interconnected with the one of mankind . Similarly, gemstone were part of the Ethiopian culture & history for centuries today there is interdependence between people , gemstone and nature , and cultivating sustainable .

 Gemstone involves a social and an environmental proactivity with the purpose of creating better condition both for a naturally healthy environment and the source of income for the people working within industry .

We strive to improve rural livelihoods using our responsible Gem sourcing strategy and promoting sustainable environmental stewardship and introducing health and safety standards to the local community.
